Visitors and residents can enjoy lovely forests and parks throughout the Sugar River Region. County-managed forested land, topographic maps, and trail ideas can be found on the Sullivan County County Lands Community Programs website.
Highlights:
- Acworth Town Forest, located next to Crescent Lake, is lined with old stone walls and homestead stone foundations.
- Cornish Town Forest has 270 acres of undeveloped forest with beautiful views and hiking trails on various wooded terrain.
- For picnicking and other recreational activities, Moody Park is a 255-acre area in Claremont with a trail network that offers a wide range of outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking and mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, a playground, and picnic tables.
- Pillsbury State Park near Washington is one of the lesser-known state parks in New Hampshire. It is heavily wooded, with several ponds and wetlands providing diverse habitats for wildlife, including moose and loons. Pillsbury State Park also includes a network of hiking and mountain biking trails, including the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway.
