The Sumner House in Charlestown

Dating back to the early 1800s, The Sumner House was originally built as a private residence for Judge Frederick Augustus Sumner, a well-known local with a dedication to serving the town of Charlestown and its inhabitants. Today, “the vision of the restaurant is two-fold: to restore a pride in Charlestown, once a hub for the aristocratic and professional society, by informing those living here today of all the great people who came before us and accomplished great things; and to encourage community, not only within Charlestown, but also for the surrounding communities.”

Poor Thom’s Tavern in Plainfield

Poor Thom’s Tavern in Plainfield was established in 2016 and since then has been a fan favorite for locals of the county and for those who aren’t from around. Poor Thom’s is named after the founder, Thom himself, and offers more than just a delightful plate of food or a satisfying drink – the restaurant is well known for its Cribbage Mondays and Tuesday Trivia Nights, making it a great place for community activity. 

Besides the cozy indoor seating options, the restaurant offers a deck with multiple tables for outdoor seating. You can sit out there and have a nice refreshing pint, since the drink menu is extensive and plenty of beloved beers are offered on tap. And if you really love Poor Thom’s, they have T-shirts and branded German beer steins available for purchase! You’ll definitely be able to tell that Poor Thom’s us more than just a place to get some food – it’s a community. 

The menu at Poor Thom’s offers more than just typical tavern foods. They have a variety of delicious options with unique flavors and combos, such as their Fried Chicken and Kimchi Sandwich, Chicken Tacos, and an Apple and Brie Chicken Sandwich, just to name a few beloved options. For those seeking lighter fare, the menu features an array of vibrant salads and vegetarian options that are both flavorful and satisfying. What the restaurant is most famous for, however, is their wood-fired pizza. There’s no better way to make pizza, and Poor Thom’s embodies that!

Farmer’s Table Cafe in Newport

While not exactly a pub, tavern, or grill, Farmer’s Table Cafe is still a notable and worthwhile dining experience. Farmer’s Table is a small-town and family-friendly restaurant that recently relocated from Grantham to the Newport Golf Club. Since 2012, despite a brief hiatus in 202 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the restaurant has served customers by the core ideals of “farm fresh and local, good home cooking, top quality food, and a warm and inviting gathering place”. 

On the homepage of their website, you can find delight in a menu of farm-fresh, locally sourced and seasonally grown, top-quality foods and classic favorites prepared in a wood-fired brick oven. Their extensive wine and beer menu perfectly complements the incredible pizzas. They take pride in the locally crafted beer, wine, and liquor selection, as well as our gluten-free options and kids’ menu, ensuring all tastes are catered to.

Their current hours are 11:30 – 8PM Fri/Sat, and 11:30-7PM Tue-Thu (closed Sunday/Monday). Rest assured, The Farmer’s Table’s commitment to providing exceptional food and service remains unwavering, as it has been throughout the years.
