Currently, there are no organized walking tours in the Sugar River Region. However, visitors can enjoy walks through the historic downtowns of the Sugar River Region’s towns and take a deeper look at the beautiful historic buildings found in downtown Newport through the Historical Newport Quest.
There are several notable historic downtowns in the Sugar River Region, such as Claremont, Newport, and Charlestown. The region also has various historic churches that align with the patterns of immigration to the area. Old St. Mary’s Church in Claremont is the oldest Catholic church in New Hampshire and was built in 1823 by French-Canadian immigrants. The oldest surviving Episcopal church in the state, Union Episcopal, built in 1773, sits across the street from Old St. Mary’s Church.
