The Fort at No. 4
The Fort at No 4 is an open-air history museum dedicated to sharing the rich heritage of the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Founded in 1947, the Fort at No 4 strives to delight visitors of all ages as they step back in time to experience life as it was during the Colonial Era in North America from 1735 until 1770. The grounds faithfully recreate the details of the original structures that existed in 1746.
Due to its location at the edge of the woods, bordered by the Connecticut River and the dedication of its townspeople, Number 4 held a distinctive position in the Colonies as well as an unique relationship with north-eastern Amerindian peoples.
We strive to share the complexities of history and demonstrate how the area’s varied inhabitants left an enduring influence on the region through engaging demonstrations, reenactments, hands-on workshops, and informative lectures.

Jamie BreenMy son came here on a field trip and we had to return as a family. We saw the French and Indian War reenactment, everything was amazing. The staff were friendly and informative. My son dressed up as a man from colonial times and everyone was kind to him. One man (staff) even helped him tie his cravat (tie around neck) the correct way. The gift shop is small but has amazing homemade items. The homemade donuts were fresh and delicious. Yes this isn't at the exact location of the original fort but was crafted in its likeness. They also built the fort as the would have in those days (the tools used and even them wearing the clothing from that time). We will be back again.

Dianne BridgerWe went on a cold, rainy day, but really enjoyed wandering around the fort. There were re-enactors explaining their crafts and some history. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Lisa from NHWhat an adventure! First off, the parking is fantastic—totally free and super convenient! As you stroll through, you’ll feel the history come alive, though the path could use a little smoothing out for wheelchair access. This place is perfect for families, bursting with events all year round that are sure to captivate everyone! To really bring the past to life, it could use a few more reenactors to enhance that enchanting period charm. But overall, it's absolutely fascinating! The fort boasts all original buildings and an impressive collection of artifacts. I was especially taken by the building featuring a massive fireplace—what a sight! There's so much to discover while you're here; it's definitely a place that promises a memorable experience!
