Andrew Brook Trailhead
A steady climb with a beautiful payoff, the Andrew Brook Trail follows the sound of moving water as it rises along the eastern slopes of Mount Sunapee. Marked by blue blazes, the trail crosses Andrew Brook several times, weaving through forest and over rocky, root-filled terrain that keeps the hike engaging from the start.
The ascent becomes more sustained as you make your way toward Lake Solitude, a quiet mountain pond tucked beneath the ridgeline. From here, a short but steep push leads to White’s Ledges, where the trees fall away and views stretch across the surrounding mountains. It’s a natural place to pause and take it all in before deciding whether to continue on toward the summit.
This is a more strenuous hike, with steep sections and uneven footing, and it can be icy in colder months—microspikes or cleats are recommended in winter. Parking can fill early on busy days, so plan ahead. For those prepared for the climb, the combination of rushing water, open ledges, and a lakeside stop makes this one of the region’s most memorable hikes.

Sean KIt was about 1.5 hours each way to the lake at a moderate pace with short breaks. Pretty steep and rocky at some points. The trail is very well maintained and the lake is very pretty and peaceful. The early part of the trail can get flooded a bit in the spring so bring proper footwear for spring hikes.

Blueberry HikerThis is a pleasant, moderate trail that runs parallel to a brook for the majority of its length, ending at a beautiful mountain lake, Lake Solitude. If you continue about .05 miles further, you will find the White Cliff Overlook, which has a bird’s-eye view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. To the White Cliffs is about 2.5 miles from the trailhead, so my hike was about 5 miles RT. If you’d like, you can extend the hike and go another .08 miles to the summit of Sunapee, which has views of the lake of the same name. Watch out for the turn for Mountain Road from 103–it comes up quickly! The road, though, is smoothly paved, and any car could get up it easily.

Giles HarrisonGreat trail with wonderful views at the end, but very poorly marked - both the blue and the white trails - there are many spots where you literally have no idea where to go next. Seriously needs a refresh

whitefootWe are absolute beginners and were able to complete the hike up the solitude lake viewpoint and back in about 4 hrs including breaks. The path is steeper in the first half, and then turns into a gradual incline which is nice for when you're just starting to feel tired. It is quite rocky and rooty throughout, but nothing too difficult. Bugs were a bit of a nuisance, and so bug spray is an absolute must. The views were exceptional, and we stopped our hike at the viewpoint to enjoy some lunch before turning around. Parking is extremely limited, but people did seem to park parallel to the road even though the sign says nose in parking only. Overall, it was high reward to effort ratio. Don't forget sturdy shoes and bug spray!
