Maple Season in the Sugar River Region
March in the Sugar River Region means one thing: maple season. As the days warm and sap starts running, sugarhouses come alive with wood-fired evaporators and the unmistakable smell of boiling syrup. New Hampshire Maple Weekend is March 21–22, 2026, but the sweet experiences happen all month long.
Maple Weekend in the Sugar River Region
Maple Weekend, March 21& 22, is your chance to follow syrup from the sugarbush to the bottle. Throughout Sullivan County, family-run sugarhouses welcome visitors for demonstrations, tastings, and maple treats that go far beyond the breakfast table. It’s also one of the best times of year to explore the region’s backroads, when snow begins to melt, steam rises from sugarhouses, and spring arrives one sweet batch at a time.
In Washington, Atkins Family Sugarhouse offers a rustic setting that gives visitors a glimpse into traditional sugaring methods, along with syrup, candy, maple sugar, and even maple popcorn. Nearby, Fletcher & Family Sugar House in East Washington offers refreshments including coffee, hot chocolate, homemade donuts and mini pancakes beyond maple syrup and maple confections.
Harding Hill Farm in Sunapee hosts an open house, complete with free coffee, hot chocolate, and doughnuts in the morning, plus lunch offerings and plenty of maple products to sample and bring home. In Plainfield, Mac’s Maple celebrates Maple Weekend with all the traditional sights, sounds, and smells of a New England spring, plus the return of their much-loved maple creemees.
Other local stops include Hillside Sugar Bush in Cornish, which welcomes visitors anytime they’re working in the sugarhouse. And in Springfield, Valley View Maple Farm is another sweet stop to add to your Sullivan County route.
Maple Season, Made Personal
Some of the best maple experiences come with a side of conversation, community, and a full plate. In Acworth, Clark’s Sugar House turns sugaring weekends into a destination of its own, with waffles, baked French toast, chili, maple macchiatos, homemade doughnuts, and plenty of maple treats to stock your pantry. Daisy Hill Farm in Grantham also offers a family-run maple experience, with visitors encouraged to call ahead during the season to confirm boiling times
